The Nidhe Israel Synagogue located in Barbados’ capital Bridgetown, was built in 1654, and restored to its present condition in 1986, and is recognized as one of the oldest synagogues in the Western hemisphere. In 2012 the synagogue and Mikvah were designated as one of the UNESCO protected properties within the World Heritage Site of Historic Bridgetown and its Garrison area. Today, this synagogue is a location of great historic and religious significance . It was therefore a brilliant idea for Andrea and Bryan Moody,  to combine their holiday to Barbados in July with the Bar Mitzvah of their son Jeffery. It was a day of incredible significance for the family, and a day that I am sure will never be forgotten.  I was privileged to record the memories.

“It had been a privilege for us to have you document these wonderful events for us. It is clear why you are so well regarded. You have perfectly captured the meaning of both of these shoots with an eye that captures the physical beauty of the setting, the emotions, and the deep spiritual context for us, and we are so thankful to have found you. “

Andrea Moody

Inquiries to the Nidhe synagogue can be directed to nidhe@caribsurf.com

We followed up the Bar Mitzvah with family photos on the island’s east coast the next day, to complete a  memorable week for Jeffrey and the family.
